Some Good News

I took and passed the Oral Assessment on Monday, 8/3, at Annex 1 with a score of 5.4. I am beyond thrilled. The entire thing doesn't quite feel real to me. I passed the GE and the SI, but failed the CM. I pretty much figured that's how it would go.

Now it's playing the waiting game, hoping my security clearance goes quickly. I'm off to the doctor on Friday for my medical tests. Fingers crossed! Right now it's time for a nap and some enjoyment of some serious downtime.

There is a great yahoo group for folks who have passed the OA: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/A-100-2002. They have lots of great info on ranks, when offers are going out, etc. I found it really helpful when I was waiting, and I and several other FSOs still "lurk" and post advice occassionally.

You can also, if you are interested, check out my blogroll at http://lifeafterjerusalem.blogspot.com. I have a list of 100+ foreign service blogs there.

Good luck!

Congrats Brandee! I take it this is the same Brandee I see posting over in the Yahoo forums?

Yes, thank you Barry! I know you passed late last month; any idea where you are in the security clearance process? As soon as you make it through that, I'm sure you'll get an offer. Management is very much in demand. Personally, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the January 19 A-100, assuming all goes smoothly. 150th class hopeful!

It's tough to tell on the security status. My case was opened sometime last week, which I understand is an indication that there are no obvious problems with my SF86. My credit was pulled yesterday (sign up for a 30-day free trial at Identityguard.com and you can track this as well!). But otherwise I haven't been contacted, and to my knowledge none of my references have been contacted.

If all goes well, January looks like a good possibility for me too. I'd sure like it if I could squeeze into October (if only to avoid a cross country drive in January!), but I doubt that my case can move along that fast.

My wife and I had our physicals this morning. While we still have to submit the paperwork and get cleared, the good news is that the doctor found nothing even remotely noteworthy. So that should go smoothly.

Congratulations!!! I'm taking it on Sept 5...the date has really crept up on me, it seems like yesterday I had almost two months until the big day. I'm trying not to get too nervous, but it's definitely encouraging finding out about others passing! I don't think this will feel real until you get your first posting, but at least you can relax now because you've made it through the hard stuff!
